Soledad, CA. November 19, 2020- The Women’s Health Clinic will expand the health services to the community with a higher level of care specifically for women. The Soledad Community Health Care District virtually had a grand opening of the Women’s Health Care Center on Thursday, November 19th.

The Women’s Health Clinic will be a separate building that is roughly 3,000 square feet in size and includes additional exam rooms, full-time OB-GYN and ultrasound services, a state-of-the-art mammogram machine and classrooms for perinatal and nutritional education.

Anna M. Caballero formed part of the grand opening as a special guest. “Thank you, for your vision for the past 15 years and to bring this incredible facility to provide access to women’s health care services in South Monterey County. To have this facility here is incredibly important,” said Anna M. Caballero. Anna was elected in November 2018 to the California State Senate to represent the 12th Senate District, which includes all of Merced and San Benito Counties, the Salinas Valley, and portions of Fresno, Madera, and Stanislaus Counties.

“This is such a proud moment for Soledad Community Health Care District as we are able to serve more of our communities needs locally without having to travel for good medical care,” said Ida Lopez Chan, CEO of the Soledad Community Health Care District.

“Central California Alliance for Health (the Alliance) is pleased to collaborate with Soledad Community Health Care District in the construction of the new Women’s Health Care Center,” said Stephanie Sonnenshine, CEO of the Alliance. “The center expands access to treatment and regular preventive care in South County, including state of the art 3D mammography and a new adolescent health program. The nearly 500 mammograms the center will provide each year ensure that women in Soledad and South County communities will get the care they need, where and when they need it. The Alliance is happy to support projects like this, which advance our vision of Healthy People. Healthy Communities by providing our members with the resources they need to maintain and improve their health.”

The Women’s Health Center will increase women’s health overall by providing local top of the line state of the art 3D mammography machine screening within the district’s geographic footprint and beyond. This makes it all the more imperative, that the District expand the primary and family care locally to the residents of our district. The Women’s Health Center will provide additional exam rooms for patient care and classrooms for patient education to improve medical literacy to our underserved population.

The expanded space makes it possible for the District to hire additional health care providers to fulfill the medical needs of our community. This will be the only health facility in South county to provide full time specialty care locally. Since transportation is an issue for many of their patients, more than half of the women who are referred to Salinas for mammograms were unable to get them done. Breast cancer is the single most common cancer in women and recognizing the need the district Board of Directors determined this potentially lifesaving procedure was needed to be done locally and committed to finding needed funding. Currently the Soledad Medical Clinic performs 44,000 visits each year and with the completion of Women’s Health Center we will have the capacity to provide an additional 20,000 visit per year.
